About

Brandon joined UCCS in 2024 as Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Technical Communication and Information Design.

Brandon was previously Assistant Professor of Technical and Professional Communication in the Department of English at Sam Houston State University. At SHSU, Brandon directed the Technical Communication program, coordinated the online M.A. program in Technical Communication, oversaw up to 40 sections of the ENGL 3330 Introduction to Technical Writing service course each semester, and directed the Iris Technical-Communication Suite. He also served as a founding member of the program in Medical Humanities. In 2023, Brandon was awarded the David Payne Community Engagement Award for bridging the technical communication classroom with community and industry partners. He received two letters of commendation from the chief of the Houston Police Department for partnerships with the Geographic Information Systems Unit and the Houston-Metro Internet Crimes Against Children Federal Task Force.

Brandon has consulted as a technical writer in the oil-and-gas industry for over a decade, and he has consulted on strategic communication for several small businesses. He previously worked as a scientific editor at the world-renowned University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center where he edited biomedical manuscripts in basic science and clinical research, taught scientific communication to researchers and clinicians, and wrote articles for OncoLog and Cancer Frontline.

Brandon has published broadly in the areas of generative AI, technical communication pedagogy, tech comm-marcomm convergence, and the usability of gaming hardware and software. He has also published professional pieces in the areas of editing and medical communication. His work has appeared in Technical Communication, Programmatic Perspectives, and Intercom, among other venues.

Brandon earned his Ph.D. in Technical Communication and Rhetoric from Texas Tech University.
